FIVE EYES MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH AND INNOVATION COLLABORATION (Five Eyes MHRIC) Virtual Meeting

The Five Eyes MHRIC was created in 2018 to bring thought leaders from the five nations (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States of America and the United Kingdom) together to advance common research priorities and develop policy by presenting their findings to the Five Eyes Ministers. In November 2020, the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research and Phoenix Australia hosted the third annual meeting, which focused on moving two research papers forward: pathways to care and an opinion piece on the importance of family from an international perspective. The group has decided to collaborate on a new paper focusing on the evolving important subject of Moral injury.

With COVID-19 having a tremendous impact on all five countries, the group held discussions on the pandemic with expert presentations on the following areas:

  • COVID-19 and Suicidality
  • COVID-19 and Effective Treatments
  • COVID-19 and Moral Injury

The 33 members of the Five Eyes MHRIC will continue to research the above areas and bring forward emerging and current research areas to advance mental health research and treatment for serving military members, Veterans and their families within the Five Eyes countries.
